Applications for Staff

General Application

You have the freedom to write for any of these sections, but if you have another idea, please let us know! We love to field any creative options.

For people who are perhaps less creative but still want to help, Take Two and Inspirationisms are perhaps the most applicable sections. We would really like for these two sections to be as member based as possible.

  1. Submit a PM to vitaamin stating the section and a few sentences explaining your proposed topic.
  2. Pieces range generally range from 300-500 words, but we are open to most forms of writing.
  3. If you aren't sure of what you want to write, but would like to express interest, we would love for you to help out in any way.
  4. After receiving your application, you will get a login ID and an issue assignment.
Sections Take Two

Take Two is the most personal of the articles. Writers will analyze one of their older works and attempt to answer some/all of these questions

  1. What was the initial vision
  2. What was difficult to convey
  3. What is your present day evaluation, what would you change?

If you want to write for this section, you may simply state interest. If there is a specific wall you want to talk about, let us know. Otherwise we will discuss which wall you can speak about.

    Inspirationisms

This section aims to inspire other wallers through thoughtful commentary. There are two available formats for this section, but we welcome other articles that may fit into this section.

    Journal Format

    1. Find a scan, image or any other medium that inspires you and submit 1-2 sentences about why you enjoy this piece of art.
    2. When approved, submit a draft of 300-500 words. Pay particular attention to how you could translate the motifs in the piece onto a wall.

    Tutorial Format

    1. This section concentrates on sharing waller tricks (special effects, how to draw trees, anything else you can think of!). Submit an image of how you applied the technique to a wall.
    2. Write 100-500 words describing how to achieve this effect.
    Back to Basics

In contrast to Inspirationisms, Back to Basics focuses on fundamental tools and how to use them. We would love to see insightful tutorials for any software. Aim to be precise and include images.

    Features

Features is the free-for-all section of The Waller. We encourage pieces with clear opinions about topics pertaining to the walling community. Suggested insights include: walling trends, advanced techniques, general artistic insights or critiques etc.

    Waller Exposé

The purpose of this section is essentially to get to know your fellow wallers better. Some questions may include:

    1. Why did they start walling
    2. Where do they draw their inspiration
    3. How have their grown as wallers
    4. What are their insights on the community or the artform.

We would love recommendations on which wallers you would like to see interviewed. Additionally if you would like to be the interviewer below are the three steps you will have to take.

    Proposal

    1. Propose artist to VW staff: write a few sentences or bullet points on why you would like to interview them and what you would like to talk about
    2. VW staff will help you set up the interview, preferably over an instant messenger client but we can also create a private forum.
    3. Write 300-500 words summarizing the interview. Anecdotes and quotes are always nice to include.
